Brent Renaud, an award-winning documentary filmmaker, was murdered trying to tell the story of refugees in Irpin, Ukraine. Brent believed you must enter peoples’ lives to truly tell their stories — enter with profound respect, humanity and humility. It’s this approach and authentic work that the Foundation was formed to maintain.

Brent Renaud always believed strongly in the power of mentorship.
From the very beginning of his career at the Downtown Community TV Center in New York (www.dctvny.org), Brent was always actively mentoring young storytellers.
The Renaud Brothers were fortunate to have legendary filmmaker Jon Alpert as their mentor, and most importantly, they were inspired by DCTV's mission to empower young filmmakers to tell their own stories.
The Brent Renaud Foundation mentorship program is being designed and led by award-winning storytellers (in documentaries, film, print and photojournalism) who were once mentored by Brent and Craig Renaud, and are now among the best in their fields. All of these storytellers share a love for mentoring, and they know how important it is for emerging artists to have a community of support along what will undoubtedly be a challenging career path.
